Learn Double Bass
Playing double bass is an adventure that will take you to many worlds of music. Janet is an experienced teacher, a graduate of Manhattan School of Music (B. Mus.), the Conservatoire Régionale de Musique (Toulouse, France) and the University of Michigan (M. Mus.) She has taught the bass sections of the Huron High Orchestras since 2011, as well as numerous private students in Mexico, France and Michigan.
Learn Viola da Gamba
The gamba, or viol, offers a passport into our past, with its repertory spanning three centuries of music of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and even Modern eras. Often appealing to adult beginners and to dedicated amateurs, the three most common sizes– treble, tenor and bass– offer a wealth of possibilities. Janet studied viol in France with a leading teacher and has been teaching all three instruments for many years.
Whether you want to learn bass for orchestra, contemporary music genres or for whatever strikes your fancy, Janet offers lessons tailored to your needs and desires. She has taught many adult beginners, and loves working with young people of all ages. Her Suzuki training coupled with her studies with the amazing soloist François Rabbath have led her to develop an approach focused on empowering each student in their own way.
The loan of a full set of viols, a unique opportunity offered by the Viola da Gamba Society of America, let Janet offer introductory viol lessons to students at the Community Music School, Huron and Skyline High Schools.
